Message from Editor-in-Chief
For almost 50 years, Cairo Papers has spearheaded the production and circulation of critical social science and humanities knowledge in and about the Middle East. Marked by a multidisciplinary commitment, our contributors span the fields of anthropology, sociology, political science, literature, art, economics, history, law, gender studies, migration, media, and psychology, among others. Cairo Papers is dedicated to publishing and debating knowledge produced through original field-based research that is innovative in its methodologies, creative in its questions, and rigorous in its use of conceptual paradigms. One of Cairo Papers’ missions is to foster the international circulation of knowledge produced in the region by Arabic-speaking scholars and from outlets with limited access to international circuits of the print economy. Currently, it is produced in English, and with each publication, we provide an Arabic translation of tiles, table of contents and abstract. We are also committed to expanding the publication in Arabic, a process that is underway by including English translations of manuscripts published in Arabic on an experimental basis. Appearing in print and as e-books, Cairo Papers is constantly striving to widen its readership and make knowledge accessible. Valuing the contributions of established scholars in the various fields of the social sciences and humanities, we also create a space for emerging young scholars to break the gatekeeping on the knowledge production circuits. In addition to our monograph series, we also publish edited collections that derive, for the most part, from themed workshops and the annual symposium. For the last few years, Cairo Papers has also committed to offering a thinking and mentoring space for emerging scholars through academic writing and translation workshops. We hope you can join us in making Cairo Papers a lively and warm space for collective thinking, mentoring, and publishing.
