Cairo Papers Annual Events

Every year, the Cairo Papers holds an Annual Symposium during the Spring semester, usually in April. The symposium came about in 1991, when Professor Dan Tschirgi, then editor of Cairo Papers, suggested small symposium to academically debate the Gulf crisis, following Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. Since then, the Cairo Papers Editorial Board decided to make the symposium an annual event and to publish the papers presented in it as a Cairo Papers issue. Chosen themes cover timely topics and engage current debates in the social sciences and humanities.

To build up an intellectual community of scholars, particularly emerging scholars in the region, Cairo Papers holds an annual academic writing workshop in December - January to mentor participants in the foundations of academic writing. These workshops are held in Arabic and English to promote the production of scholars and knowledge that is embedded in Egypt and the region and to enhance the circulation of knowledge from the region globally

Each Fall semester Cairo Papers collaborates with a local, regional, or international research organization to host an interdisciplinary workshop on themes that are timely to Egypt and the region.
