Cairo Papers New Issues
Cairo Papers recently published five issues that delve into a variety of themes in Egypt and the Middle East. Ellen Weis’ Egyptian Hip Hop: Expressions from the Underground examines the world of hip-hop music, its context and its producers. Organizing the Unorganized by Farah Kobaissy takes us to Lebanon and analyzes the trajectories and practices of work, leisure and organizing among migrant domestic workers. Malak Rouchdy’s edited collection, The Food Question in the Middle East, explores different facets of producing and consuming food, its meanings, networks and political economy. Nicholas Hopkins and Sadrine Gamblin’s Sports and Society in the Middle East introduce the readers to the world of sports, exploring through the different papers in this edited collection the intersections between work, leisure, economy and sociality. Finally, The Political Economy of the New Egyptian Republic, edited by Nicholas Hopkins, engages with the shifts and complexity in different domains of political economy in the 21st century, from tourism, to labor, wellbeing, housing and finance, among others.
