Problems of identity, contributions to the intellectual and social life of societies, participation in Mediterranean trade, relations between Muslim and non-Muslim communities, and interaction between the non-Muslim communities and the non- Muslim world will also be examined. The class will use primary and secondary sources to help the student grasp the role of non-Muslims in a Muslim society. The class will also use documentary films and may include a field-trip to related historical sights.
