Call for Papers for the 8th Annual Political Science Conference
The Middle East in Transition: The Palestinian Cause, Regional Realignments,
and the Future of Post-Conflict Reconstruction
Conference Date: February 11-12, 2026
This two-day interdisciplinary conference seeks to critically engage with the political, legal, and socio-economic issues within the contemporary Middle East amid ongoing conflicts and shifting political alliances. The ongoing war in Palestine has, for the first time, prompted the active engagement of new regional and international actors whose involvement reflects a broader shift in the balance of power. What unfolded in Gaza became a critical juncture that exposed the limits of the old regional order and hastened the emergence of a new one in which states such as (but not limited to)
Saudi Arabia, China, and Russia, and non-state actors have begun to assert much greater influence in the changing political and socioeconomic landscape of the Middle East.
We invite submissions from political science, international relations, law, history, sociology, and related disciplines. Contributions that adopt comparative, interdisciplinary, or critical approaches are especially welcome.
Possible Themes Include (but Are Not Limited To):
• The reshaping of regional alignments and the rising role of non-traditional actors in Middle Eastern diplomacy
• The question of Palestine and its impact on the transformation of regional politics
• International law, sovereignty, and the recognition of Palestine
• The politics of aid, sanctions, and economic dependency in conflict and post-conflict contexts
• Regional alliances and competing visions of a new post-war order
• Reconstruction, legitimacy, and governance in post-war Arab states
• The role of global powers (China, Russia, the U.S., and the EU) in redefining the Middle East's strategic landscape
• The media narratives and public diplomacy shaping perceptions of the Palestinian conflict and reconstruction
• Humanitarian governance, displacement, and the politics of reconstruction
• Energy politics and economic realignments in the wake of regional conflict
• Comparative approaches to post-conflict reconstruction and state-building across the Middle East
• The role of identity, ideology, and political discourse in shaping contemporary Middle East
• Knowledge production, media narratives, and the framing of conflict and potential recovery Comparative or theoretical perspectives on statehood and potential reconstruction of Gaza
