Philosophy of religion consists in a rational inquiry into religion and its practice. This course analyzes first the problem of evil, and the notion of good and God’s identification with the Good, according to Augustine and the Pseudo-Dionysius.
We will also study the question of miracles and how they relate to nature and God’s omnipotent action according to G- I. Mavrodes, al-Ghazali and Averroes.

Finally, we will analyze the notion of God’s providence according to Aquinas.

Texts:

Augustine, Confessions (Selections)
Pseudo-Dionysius, The Divine Names (Selections)
