The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUSS) is the home to the core disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and arts at AUC. HUSS comprises 10 departments: Applied Linguistics, Arab and Islamic Civilizations, Arts, Educational Studies, English and Comparative Literature, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology.

    Tackling social, environmental and economic issues, the designers behind the 20-plus projects for the Under CTRL senior exhibition take us through the projects they designed to tackle concerns they have for the world they are entering. The projects highlight diverse student experiences, ranging from learning during COVID-19 lockdowns, anxieties over competing with artificial intelligence for creative work, maintaining sustainable lifestyles, coping with hidden developmental disabilities, and many more.

The play humanizes the climate crisis in an attempt to spur necessary discussions and action among its audience.

  • The Earth Turns Play

    The Earth Turns is a Climate-Inspired bilingual (Arabic and English) performance for the lead-up to the COP27 Climate Conference. Adapted from We Still Have a Chance- 12 Stories for 12 Days of COP27, an anthology of micro-stories created by Climate Activists, Scientists, Health Professionals, Students, and Artists from The University of Exeter, Met Office, Ain Shams University, Banlastic, The American University in Cairo, and other organizations, these stories and this performance were created with the express purpose of humanizing this global problem.
