Visual Arts: BA

Arts Studio

The visual arts program provides students with an exciting opportunity to develop their unique artistic vision and creative practice. Our educational environment emphasizes research and expression in traditional and contemporary art forms, such as drawing, painting, animation, installation art and sculpture, mixed media, ceramics, video, photography, sound, and new media. The curriculum balances studio-based course work with historical and contemporary studies in art history and theory.

This program is suitable for students who are interested in the following:

  • Making art
  • Studying art history
  • Developing highly creative practices

Many opportunities are available for students to gain hands-on experience, including internships at some of the best galleries, museums, and festivals in Egypt and field trips to artists’ workshops.

Students intending to major in visual arts begin with foundations classes in optical research and analysis and then progress to intermediate studio courses in specific media and techniques (drawing, painting, sculpture and installation, photography, time-based media, alternative and new media practices, experimental animation, and others). All majors also complete a four-semester sequence of studio courses (Art Studio I, II, III, and IV) designed to foster independent work at an advanced level, followed by a year-long senior project in the final year, which culminates in a public exhibition at the annual degree show in the Sharjah Art Gallery.

Graduates of the program have gone on to become:

  • Artists
  • Art critics
  • Curators
