ARIC alumna Mona Hafiz presented part of her research at this year’s Annual Meeting of the Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA) which took place in Washington DC in November. The MESA Annual Meeting is the largest academic conference for Middle East Studies in North America.
Mona talk, “Local and Transregional Networks of Women in Late Medieval Mecca and the Mamluk Empire,” at Panel X-14, “State, Society, and Art in the Medieval World,” was based on her recent MA thesis in Arabic Studies which was this year’s winner of the George T. Scanlon Graduate Student Award in Arab and Islamic Civilizations.
